What is Aged Care?

Aged care is the support provided to older people in their own home or in an aged care home. As you get older, it is harder to do day-to-day activities. You might need help to fully function with certain aspects of your daily life. Aged care provides help with everyday living, health care, accommodation and equipment such as walking frames or ramps.



Why should you go into the Aged Care industry?

The Aged Care industry is an important sector for economic and social productivity. This industry is a large and growing industry with strong employment prospects. From the years of 2014 to 2019, the Aged Care industry had grown 3.7% in Australia. According to studies, the demand for new aged care beds will rise by more than 70,000 places in the next 5 years. With the increase of lifespan expectancy over the years, the Aged Care industry will continue growing and require more dedicated workers.


What jobs can I get in the Aged Care?

In the Aged Care industry, there are multiple career pathways to explore. Some common job titles include:

- Residential care worker - Support worker

- Care supervisor - Care team leader - Day activity worker


Where can I be employed in Aged Care?

Typically, employers of Aged Care workers include:

- NDIS approved facilities - In-Home Care Organisations - Community Organisations - Aged Care Facilities - Nursing Homes


How do I get into the Aged Care Industry?

Getting into the Aged Care industry is easy! The most important pre-requisite is to have the necessary qualifications. The government requires workers to be certified with either a Cert III, Diploma or Degree in Aged Care, depending on the job title. Don’t worry, you don’t have to spend a lot of money or time to get certified. Many Aged Care courses have government-supported funding, with options for full time and part-time courses.
